About Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia

MAKE A DONATION TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia brings communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership.

With the help of volunteers and generous donors, Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia builds decent and affordable homes that provide a solid foundation for people to build better, healthier lives in Nova Scotia. Habitat homeowners volunteer 500 hours and pay an affordable mortgage – geared to their income – to buy their home at fair market value. Habitat’s model of affordable homeownership bridges a gap for people who face barriers to homeownership and who would otherwise not have an opportunity to buy a home.

As part of the global Habitat for Humanity network, Habitat Nova Scotia is one of 46 affiliates in Canada and part of hundreds of affiliates across more than 70 countries. This interconnected network allows us to leverage resources, share best practices and collaborate on projects that have a meaningful impact on housing affordability worldwide.

Contest Overview

VIDA owns 6.6 acres of prime land ready for development, located in the town of Kentville, Nova Scotia. VIDA is developing coastal modular homes that will revolutionize affordable living. We are looking for an extraordinary creation of the exterior grounds layout that naturally speaks to the sense of belonging of this pristine community.

Contest Goal

VIDA is looking for creative ways to position the homes on the site – minimizing infrastructure investments (fill, road, plumbing services, etc.), while maximizing the number of units and the sense of beauty and quality of life within the amenity space. Please use your creative senses to deliver features rarely seen in a modular home community

Amenities should offer a positive impact on physical/mental health and overall connectivity to make a community thrive. This may include details like a floral walking path, community garden, picnic area, playground, pickleball court, fire pit, event space, gazebo and so much more! The world is your oyster when creating VIDA's Coastal Modular Community.
